The movie is the latest work from Hayao Miyazaki. It was released in Japan in July and has received critical acclaim. The animated film is based on the 1937 novel How Do You Live? by Genzaburō Yoshino.

Storyline

The movie's protagonist, Mahito, is 10 years old. He loses his mother in a tragic hospital fire. Afterward, his father marries his sister-in-law, and Mahito struggles with the changes in his life. Mahito befriends a talking heron. They embark on a surreal journey together. This adventure takes Mahito to a world between the living and the dead.
