Killed instantly when the automobile in which they were riding was struck another vehicle traveling an estimated 100 miles an hour and pursued by a deputy sheriff were: James W. Byrd, 29; his wife, Mrs. Margaret Byrd, 28; and Earl Bascomb Powell, 41.

Mrs. Byrd was driving at the time of the tragedy. In the speeding car were Larry Donald Williams, 19, of the U.S. Navy, stationed at Cecil Field, the driver, and Robert L. Collison, 33.

Reverend Sumner drowned in a boating accident on Lake Tarpon Thursday. He was born in Tifton, and came to Tarpon Springs a year ago to as pastor of the local Church of God. He came here from Plant City where he had served for six years. Reverend Sumner had pastored Churches of God in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and North Carolina. Survivors include his widow, Mrs.

Crash Kills One, Hurts 2 OCALA (P) A 61-year-old man from New Jersey was killed early yesterday and two other persons were hurt in a head-on auto collision near McIntosh in northern Marion County. The Florida Highway Patrol listed the dead man as James Smith, a Negro from Newark. Mrs. Smith and the driver of the second car, Dennis Lee Brooks of Cecil Field near Jacksonville, were brought to an hospital for treatment. Deaths in the Tampa Area and Elsewhere on the West Coast car containing the two men at speeds up to 110 miles an hour.

Williamson said the car was traveling at a rate of 100 miles an hour when it crossed the center line curve and collided with the" car containing the Ruskin trio. Byrd was an agricultural worker, employed at Ruskin and northward along the Atlantic seaboard. He and Mrs. Byrd were reported enroute from New York State to Ruskin where they were to get their two small sons and return north. A native of Alabama, Byrd had resided in the Ruskin area about 20 years.

Mrs. Byrd was a native of New Jersey. In Ruskin the Byrd family resided at 605 5th Ave. SE. Byrd is survived by two sons, James W.

Byrd 10, and Paul Douglas Byrd, 5, Ruskin; by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Byrd, Ruskin; and a brother, O'Neal Byrd, Ruskin.

Mrs. James W. (Margaret) Byrd is survived by her two sons; also by her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Joseph Soutter, Orient Road, Tampa; two brothers, Charles Soutter, Wildwood.
